Monterey Navy Flying Club

Monterey에 와서 연구실 - 집을 반복한지 한달즈음 지났을 때인가, 이곳에 있는 모임(클럽) 중 내 관심사와 맞을 만한 것이 있는 지 찾아 보았던 적이 있다.

그 중에 유일하게 눈에 띄었던 것이 Monterey Navy Flying Club.
하지만 Membership 조건을 보고 침만 꿀꺽 삼키면서 페이지를 닫았었던 기억이 있다.

Membership Requirements: The Club is open to Active Duty, National Guard, Retired, and Reserve military members and their family members, and federal government employees. Members of armed forces of foreign countries and their family members when on orders with the US military are also eligible. Civilians are eligible for membership through the Civil Air Patrol

그러던 중 오늘 새롭게 알게된 놀라운 사실 한가지.
연구실 동료인  Research assistant 한명이 비행 면허를 가지고 있다는 것이다.
게다가 곧 면허 갱신(?)을 위해서 비행을 해야 한다고 하니.. 얼마나 놀랍던지.
면허를 따는 방법과 비용에 대해서 물어보고 몇가지 정보를 얻었다.

그리고 다시 Monterey Navy Flying Club의 가입 조건을 찬찬히 살펴 보니 그래도 몇가지 가능성은 남아 있는 듯 하다.

면허 취득에 필요한 교육시간을 찾아보고 (http://blog.daum.net/gniang/11365106) 대충 비용 계산을 해보니, 최소 약 $4050.
남아프리카 케이프타운에서는 1000만원 미국에서는 약 4000만원이 든다고 하니 (물론 이경우는 숙박 포함이지만) 400만원 정도면 좋은 조건이지 않을까...

어쨌든... 골프를 배우라는 주변의 압박을 뿌리치고 비행을 배울 수 있을지는 미지수... 넘어야 할 산이 많다.
